Online Resources Many of these pages contain specific links within them but this page lists some useful general sites (including other link sites) If you find any sites that you think would be of use to others let me know and I will add them. Email me here
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?call=bv.View..ShowTOC&rid=cell.TOC&depth=2 This link will take you to the contents page of the third edition of Molecular Biology of the Cell by Alberts et al. The text of this book, including the diagrams, are then searchable. An excellent resource.
http://www.spolem.co.uk/index.asp This site has been put together by a teacher of, among other things, A Level Biology and includes a lot of useful information - including lecture notes - might make a change from mine Another two sites put together by biology teachers: http://www.tuff-stuff.co.uk/index.htm
http://www.biology.arizona.edu/default.html Tests on a range of subjects including: Cell Structure Molecular Biology Mendelian genetics Each question in the test has an accompanying brief tutorial A version of the onion root tip squash experiment to practice with Links to other sites
http://www.terrific-scientific.co.uk/Pages/AtomicStructure/atomic_structure1.htm A step-by-step guide to atomic structure and bonding
http://www.wpbschoolhouse.btinternet.co.uk/page04/4_72bond.htm A fairly simple description of bonding in molecules
Some pretty animations illustrating cell biology process and structures
http://www.stanford.edu/group/Urchin/GIFS/exocyt.gif A nice simple little animation showing the process of exocytosis - shows membrane fusion
http://highschoolhub.org/hub/biology.cfm A links page to a range of sites. A very useful start point
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome/guide/human Includes the detailed chromosome maps elucidated by the Human Genome Project
http://www.genome.gov/page.cfm?pageID=10001772 The official site of the Human Genome Project. Includes brief descriptions of the techniques used
http://www.mendelweb.org/homepage.html A series of largely textual resources relating to Mendel
http://www.biology-online.org/ Primarily a links site. A good place to start Also contains some fairly uninspired text-only tutorials
http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages An online textbook Presented in an "old skool" way so not very pretty to look at but lots of good illustrations
This site, produced by the world renowned Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory [the Real Madrid of molecular biology labs], contains dozens of simply presented but content-rich animations covering just about every aspect of DNA. It focuses heavily on the work of the individuals who got us to where we are.
Yet another comprehensive list site
